The selection process is run by an independent selection panel chaired by Peter Thompson and includes Phil Muir, Anne Norman, Brendan Lindsay and Rachel Taulelei.

The selection panel is provided with a list of potential laureates, with details about their business achievements and contributions to their community.

This list comprises individuals that have been nominated by panel members and external persons, and individuals who had been previously considered but not selected.
